Big Feelings, Little Books
April's Theme: Thinking Outside the Box
There can be a quiet pressure around learning.
Not always spoken out loud, but felt in the background. The sense that children should be progressing in a certain way, at a certain pace, using certain methods.
For many children, that works well enough.
But for others, particularly neurodivergent children, learning doesn’t sit neatly inside those expectations.
It might look more hands-on, more movement-based, more interest-led. It might come in bursts rather than steady progress. It might focus deeply on one area while others develop more slowly. It might involve questioning, resisting, or approaching things in ways that don’t always make sense from the outside.
This month’s book list is centred on that kind of learning.
Learning that doesn’t follow a straight line.
Learning that values curiosity, creativity, and individuality.
Learning that makes space for different ways of thinking and understanding the world.
